Veteran of Oil Fields Dies at 90
A veteran of the early day oil fields in Wyoming, Charles White died Friday night in Memorial Hospital at the age of 90. He made his home in Casper with a daughter, Mrs. Edna Donohue, at 1215 East Second Street, following his retirement from Stanolind Oil & Gas (predecessor of Pan American) a quarter-century ago.
Mr. White was born Dec. 24, 1873 in Spencerville, OH. As a young man, he went to work for Ohio Oil Co. (now Marathon) at Bridgeport, IL. He was transferred to the Big Muddy field near Parkerton, east of Casper in 1916, with duties of a heavy drilling blacksmith foreman – a job no longer found in the oil fields. Later he went to the Salt Creek Field to work for Stanolind. After his retirement in 1938, he moved to Casper.
His wife Sarah died in 1920.
Mr. White was a member of Casper Lodge No. 22 of the Odd Fellows and was a member of the Odd Fellow order for 50 years.
Other survivors include a son, Paul S. White of Los Angeles, and three daughters; Mrs. N. J. Ehrmantraut, and Mrs. Catherine Van Buskirk of Santa Ana, CA, and Mrs. James M. Allen, 1715 S. Ash, Casper; also 14 grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Bustard
Funeral Home Monday at 1 pm with the Rev. Stuart Cook of the Christian Church officiating. Casper Lodge No. 22, IOOF, will assist.
The body will be entrained to St. Mary's, OH for burial (ending cut off)…
