Mrs. Sarah Jane Welker, widow of James Welker, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. C. Pretorius, at Bippus, Friday afternoon about four o'clock. She was stricken with paralysis the first of last week and was helpless until her death. Friday morning she became unconscious. The body was brought to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Riley Elliott in North Manchester, and the funeral was held at the United Brethren Church Sunday afternoon at 1:30. Burial was in Oaklawn cemetery.

Mrs. Welker's maiden name was Sarah Jane White and she was the daughter of Ruphis White and wife (Nancy Dolf). She married James Welker and they lived in Ohio until six years after their marriage when they moved to a farm near Bolivar. Mr. Welker died about six years ago and since then she has lived with her children. Three daughters survive, Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. Pretorius and Mrs. Ida Howell of Fortville. One child died in infancy. Two brothers are living, Charles of Oklahoma and Richard of Wabash and two sisters, Mrs. Oliver Silvers and Mrs. Caroline Roberts of St. Mary's, Ohio.
