B-17 Flying Fortress #42-3498, nicknamed "Hap's Hazard/ aka Red Head" was shot down by enemy fighter aircraft while on a bombing mission to Berlin. The aircraft spun in and crashed two miles south of Osterholz, 25 miles north of Hanover, Germany. None of the crewmembers could bail out. Missing Air Crew Report 4582.
