LEOMINSTER -- Charles E. Whitney, 83, of 65 Wachusett St., died Tuesday, Feb. 29, at his daughter's home after a brief illness.
His wife, Irma E. (Person) Whitney, died in 1987. He leaves a son, Clifford Mathewson of Lunenburg; three daughters, Elaine L. Perreault of Leominster, May Ann Guilmette of Townsend, and Margaret Cote of Fitchburg; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was born in Leominster, son of Arthur N. and Mary S. (Carter) Whitney. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Whitney owned and operated the former Whitney Service Center, 18 Pleasant St., for many years. He later owned and operated Whitney Service on Wachusett Street for 25 years. He was a member of the No. 6 Community Center.
The funeral service will be private. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to No. 6 Community Center, c/o Shirley Deyo, 31 Parker Road, Shirley, MA 01464.
