"Helen" Anna Catharina Stephani was born in Bonn, Germany, the daughter of Johann Joseph Stephani and Helena Raaf. Her parents married on 27 May 1863 in Bonn, Rheinland, Prussia (Deutschland Geburten and Taufen, 1558-1898, +FS).

Helen "Stephan" married August Edward Neff on 3 Dec 1887, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania per (August's passport application).

She had Stephani siblings:

On the 1900 Jefferson Twp., Chicago, Cook, IL census, I found manufacturer, Augusta Neff, 34, Apr 1866, married 13 years to wife Helen, 34, May 1866, had 3 kids, all living: Helen, 9, Mar 1891; Edward, 7, Feb 1893 and "daughter Milton," 2, Oct 1897. Parents born in Germany and children in Illinois. August immigrated in 1883 and Helen in 1878.

On the 1910 Chicago Ward 27, Cook, IL census, I found furniture manufacturer August Neff, 44, Germany, married 23 years to wife Helen, 44, Germany, had 3 kids, all living; daughter and bookkeeper, Helen, 19, IL born.

On the 1920 Chicago Ward 26, Cook Co., IL census, I found manufacturer of "webbing, etc.," August E Neff, age 53 and wife Helen, 53, both born in Germany. He immigrated in 1884 and she in 1878, and they both naturalized in 1892. They lived at and owned their home at 4103 N Hermitage Avenue.

19 Oct 1922 she departed Hamburg, Germany for Chicago on the Caronia, 2nd class, Helen Neff, age 56, born in Bonn, also with husband August Neff. Hamburg Passenger Lists. They arrived baci in NY, NY, 10 days later on the 29th. Their address in Chicago was 4103 N Hermitage Avenue. .

Her hustand, August, died on 11 Sep 1927.

On the 1930 Chicago, Ward 49, Cook Co., IL census, I found widowed Helen Neff, 63, born in Bonn, Germany (dad in Cobbenz, Germany and mom in Bonn, Germany), and divorced son plus coml traveler in the trimming business, Milton J Neff, 32, born in IL, dad in Stuttgart and mom in Bonn, Germany. They rented an apartment at 6035 Winthrop Avenue.

On the 1940 Chicago, Cook Co., IL census, I found widowed Helen Neff, 73, born in Germany, finished 8th grade. She resided and owned her home at 5833 Rockwell Street.

Germany birth records state Anna Catharina Stephani, born 20 May 1866 in Bonn, Rheinland, Prussia to Johann Jos Stephani and Helena Raf, LDS film 1052884.

Her death record states: Helen Neff, a widow was the daughter of Jos Stephani and Helen Raaf. She was born in Bonn, Germany on 20 May 1866 and died 1 Nov 1957, in Chicago, IL, aged 91. She resided and died at 5727 N Washtenau Street, in Chicago. Drake and Son Funeral Home handled the arrangements and burial was at Rosehill Cemetery. Edward Neff was the informant.
