DAVID CAVINESS
David Caviness, son of John and Susan Caviness, was born in Indiana on February 23, 1848, and died in Albia, Iowa, on Wednesday, February 10, 1931, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 18 days.
When quite small he came to Iowa with his parents. He enlisted in the Civil War and served until the end of the strife.
Soon after the close of the war he was married to Rachel Fowler and to this union four children were born: Jesse, of Lucas, Iowa and William, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Arthur dying in infancy and Susie Brombaugh dying in 1927.
His wife having died he was again married to Minerva Ballard and to this union were born five children: Maude Frazier and Minnie Waugh, of Chariton, Ia., one boy who died in infancy, Alfred, of Idaho, and Carl, who was killed in action in the world war.
For many years Mr. Caviness was a resident of Chariton, moving from here to Avery and then to Albia the first of this year.
In later years he was married to Sarah Horn, who survives him. There are also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Christian church in Albia, followed by interment at that place.
