Louis J. Wernet, Sr., age 70, of 311 N. Marable passed away Sunday, October 28, 1990 in a Temple hospital.

Rosary was recited by Rev. Ed Karasek at 8 p.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, West.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. Isidore Rozycki as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, West.

Mr. Wernet was born August 2, 1920 in Waco and had lived in West since 1949. He was owner of Wernet's West Drug, where he was a pharmacist for 30 years, retiring in 1981. Since his retirement, Mr. Wernet worked at the Family Practice Clinic in Waco.

He married Lucille Stanislav on February 2, 1942, in West. Mr. Wernet graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1949 and was a member of the UT Alumni Association. He was a member of various pharmaceutical associations; St. Mary's Catholic Church in West, S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 54 and the Knights of Columbus Council #2305 of West, of which he was a past grand knight. He was a member of the West Volunteer Fire Department and served as fire chief.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille; a son, Thomas Wernet of Fort Worth, a daughter, Donna Halm of Arlington; two sisters, Mrs. Marvin (Josephine) Mikeska of Longview and Catherine Morris of Los Angeles; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Dr. B.D. Pierce, Mike Sulak, Mike Gerik, David Mikeska, Robert Stanislav and Joe Edd Grimm.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the West Volunteer Fire Department and Knights of Columbus Council #2305.

Kotch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
