He was the son of Andrew & Rachel (____) Messenger and married Susannah (____) on April 20, 1669 at Jamaica, Queens Co., L.I., New York.

p. 3 Lier A., page 30:
"December 20th 1685 Samuell Messenger of Jamaica on Long Island in Queens County being very sick, not knowning how soon God shall take me out of this life, but being in perfect memory, do bequeath my body to the earth to be decently buried & my soul to God who gave it in hope of a blessed & a glorious resurrection & after all my dues, debts are paid I leave my good & loving (____) to be sole executor of all till death or marrigae
And to my Eldest son Samuell I give my two acres of my meadow & the priviledge there unto bleonging & also my house & home lott
And to my other three sons Andrew, Nathaniell & John each of them an acre of meadow with priviledges thereunto belonging & all my cloaths equally to be devided among my four sons & my cart tackling & some beetle wedges & all my tolls to be equally devided among my four sons.
And to my daughter Alice, I give & bequeath my great chest & the lesser chest of my daughter Susannah & as for other goods of Iron, pewter & brasse shall be equally devided among my two daughters Alice & Susannah & each of them a three year old heafer
And as for my corn & other provisions I leave it to my family for their present subsistence and if my dear wife Susannah after my departure from life sees cause to marry for her convenience. I give her my best cow, my feather bed and all the furniture thereof besides the third of my estate
And further, I give to my daughter Alice a yew & to my daughter Susannah a lamb and five acres of land I bought of my brother Zachariah Mills.
I leave to my wife to dispose of, for the payment of debts. But if my wife is necessarily constrained to part with any of my goods & chattels above menconed for her or my childrens relief during the time of her widowhood shee may not withstanding any legacy herein willed, but my land shall stand absolutley according to the tenor of this my last will and testament & to see this my will fullfilled I leave Zach Mills, Ben Jones, Jonas Wood, Rich Jones, Samuell Messenger

Queens County at a County Court of Sessions held at Jamaica for the said County the second Tuesday in March in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred eighty and five the Will of Samuel Messenger was proved by the oaths of Jonas Wood & Richard Jones"
