John Alton Burns
John Alton Burns, 86, of Rowlesburg, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 30, 1914, in Keyser, son of the late William Henry and Lillian June Plum Burns. He attended the Brunnerdale Seminary in Canton, Ohio. He was a welder and helped build the Tygart Valley Dam, and also worked as a brakeman for the B&O Railroad. He was a member of the St. Phillomena's Catholic Church in Rowlesburg. He is survived by three sons, John DelSignore and Harman DelSignore, both of Rowlesburg, and Roscoe Collins, of Fairmont; six daughters, Amy Nestor, of Fairmont, Maria Ayersman, of Rowlesburg, Rubin Slaton, of Bridgeport, Barbara Burns, of Rowlesburg, Mary Ridenour, of Moatsville, and Marion Harris, of Rivesville; three brothers, Chester Burns, of Terra Alta, Russell Burns, of Winston Salem, N.C., and Clarence Burns, of Killbuck, Ohio; three sisters, Nellie Nethken, of Rowlesburg, Mable DeWitt, of Kingw ood, and Goldie Boylan, of Independence; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Burns and Dewey Burns; a sister, Eva Burns; and a grandson, James Alton DelSignore. Friends may call at Taylor Funeral Home, W.Va. 92, Newburg, from 3-9 p.m. Monday, with a Wake service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, with Father Vincent Segotta C.P. as celebrant. Burial will be in Bell Hill Cemetery, Macomber.
