Georgene Case DeLong was born at the Kansas State Prison at Lansing at the time her father was warden there. She received her education in the Mankato schools, graduating from high school in 1907 and from St. Mary's Academy at Leavenworth in 1908.

She taught school four years.

During the first world war she took nurses training at Letterman General Hospital at San Francisco and received her degree as R.N. from there.

She was married to J.E. DeLong November 22, 1922, at Mankato. One son, Gene Edward, was born to them.

Mrs. DeLong became ill in the early 1930's and went away for treatment and hospitalization in 1934. With the exception of a year and a half, which she spent at home, she has been in hospital ever since that time. At the time of her death, November 1, 1947, she was a patient in the Kansas State Sanatorium at Norton.

Georgene, as she was known to her friends, made a very brave fight for her life and became an example and inspiration to all who knew her.

Before her illness she held active memberships in the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eastern Star and the Red Cross. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors are her husband, J.E. DeLong of Mankato, her son Gene Edward DeLong of Kansas State College; two sisters, Mrs. E.H. Howard and Miss Harriet Case of Mankato and many other relatives.

Funeral services were held at Kramer's Monday afternoon in charge of Rev. Fred C. Clark. Mrs. James Scott played piano music at the service. Interment was at the local cemetery.
