Dixie Dent Johnson, 76, of Roanoke, Va., peacefully went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 14, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Wesley and Bertie Dunn Dent; brother, Thomas "Bud" Dent; and an infant son. She was a member of Preston Oaks Baptist Church and the Harmony Sunday School Class. Dixie was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Loyd W. Johnson; daughters, Beverly Johnson, of Roanoke, Elizabeth Rader and husband, Sam, of New Castle; grandchildren, Cody, Ashley, and Tori Rader; brother, Donald R. Dent and wife, Gladys, of Roanoke; sister-inlaw, Dana Dent, of Pearisburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Dr. Inhorn, Angie and the staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Care, and the staff on the 10th floor (especially Chris) at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at Patmos United Methodist Church Cemetery in Bedford County by the Rev. Shawn Dobbins and the Rev. James Millsaps. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Va., 540-366-0707.
