Sterling resident David Joseph Burt, 72, died May 9, 1996, at Central Peninsula General Hospital.
A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Peninsula Memorial Chapel with visitation starting at 1 p.m. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10046 will officiate. Burial will be at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
Mr. Burt was born Dec. 24, 1923, in Coweta, Okla. He was a logger and operated his own sawmill.
Mr. Burt moved from California to Willow, where he homesteaded in 1964. In 1966, he moved to Haines, and in 1969, to Tok. In 1980, he moved to Sterling.
A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Burt was a lifetime VFW member and enjoyed fishing, treasure hunting and rebuilding old equipment.
Surviving are his wife, Gertrude of Sterling; sons, Charles of Sterling and Allen of Oregon; daughters, Lisa Hastings of Oregon, Betty Jean Goodman of Anchorage, and Lucy Elxie of Glennallen; stepdaughters, Donna Davis of Sterling, Mary Ann Mills, Linda Voss, Wanda Levels and Marsha Tramel, all of Arkansas; brother, Jim of Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nine step-grandchildren.
