Robert Buckner Johnston, Jr., first born child of Robert Buckner and Louisa Brand Johnston was born on August 28, 1903 in Burton, Washington County, Texas. He was the first born grandchild of Jacob and Eliese Leuenberger Brand. The Brands, emigrates from Switzerland, came to New Mexico from Texas in 1910. They were among some of earlier pioneer families to establish a homestead in the northeastern section of Mora County, New Mexico. Bob, his parents and his five brothers moved to New Mexico in 1914. They lived with Brands while their house was being built on the Johnston homestead.


Robert Buckner married Dorthea Cremilla McCarty on September 30, 1932 in Roy, Harding County, New Mexico. They raised four of their five children in the Mofax Community. Bob was a resident of the Mofax Community for fifty years before moving to Texline, Dallam County, Texas in 1964. He retired in 1968 and the family moved to Clayton, Union County, New Mexico. He died at the age of 73 in Clayton New Mexico.
