Born January 3, 1919, in Cranston, IA, she was the daughter of Tom and Luella Atherton Fry. On May 20, 1936, she married Norbert Randall Cross in Rock Island, IL. He died June 16, 1997.
Ruby was a homemaker. She was a bus driver for the Burlington School District for 12 years.
She was a 1936 graduate of Wapello High School. Upon graduation, Mrs. Cross helped her husband farm from 1936 to 1950. They then moved to Middletown, where they continued to raise their 13 children.
She was as member of the Middletown Presbyterian Church, the Garden Club, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary. She was known for her exceptional spelling, having won the Spelling Bee of her school in 1932. Ruby also enjoyed cooking, crafts and playing cards.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, four sons, Raymond, Milton, Gale, and Wayne, two grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.
