Son of John Lessig and Margaret Meixell. He was christened 2 May 1823 at St. Peter's Church in Plainfield Twp., Northampton Co., PA, sponsored by Philip Lessig and Elizabeth Mackes (his grandparents.)

He married Lydia Shoemaker (daughter of Jacob Shoemaker and Sarah Newhart).

3. Francis Samuel Lessig b. 1871
4. Anna Lydia Lessig b. 1873
5. Charles N Lessig b. 1874
6. Alice M Lessig b. 1878

Samuel took over his father's property with the grist and saw mills, which he continued to operate
into the late 1800s. In 1870 Samuel and his family were living in Ross Township, Monroe Co. In that same year Samuel served on the school board.

Samuel was also a partner in the ownership of extensive limestone quarries just west of the village of Saylorsburg. These quarries are still in operation in 1993.

It is believed that Samuel is buried in Mt. Eaton Church cemetery with no marker on his grave.
