Some of this e mail sent to me is an interesting story of a traveling stone that has come back to the area it left, and of course it is the monument for Elizabeth. Perhaps as the person states could be related to some of these folks in this cemetery.
Hi Judy
I just added a photo of Elizabeth Simpson' s stone of which I came across by quite an accident on a Facebook discussion dedicated to Springfield past. Someone asked if any one knew the name of a cemetery and what may have happened to it. As a findagraver myself I knew it might be there and I found your memorials. Several people remembered it being there but nothing more. The a lady popped up and said she had a stone that her husband had removed in the 1960's and that they had carried it with them for over 40 years through several states before moving back to Springfield in 2006. They tried to return the stone to the cemetery but were rebuffed by current ownership. It was fortunately removed after OGS had read the cemetery as it was Elizabeth Simpson 1838-1865 whom you have listed. I have related the history of the cemetery from the N-L articles to those on the group interested. I also have a cemetery facing destruction. Kershner Cemetery on the banks of the James River and Pearson Creek. A developer bought the land about ten years ago from an elderly relative and some stones that were scattered a ways from the main group have disappeared. I'm afraid that when he thinks no one cares the rest will disappear. This is why I have tried to at least document its existence. My GGgrandfather and his brother are buried under Civil War stones near the Kershner plot (his inlaws) I'm sure I was the last person to clean and mow the place about 10 years ago. The people in your cemetery may be connected to some of mine as they appear to have come from East Tennessee in the same time frame (the 1840's) with two surnames Langstons and Galbraiths connected to some of my families. I was born and raised in the area.

Now with the finding of this stone we know that Elizabeth was the wife of J P Simpson. We can only wonder if he was buried there.
