Anna is the daughter of James Dye and his first wife Barbara Livengood. Barbara is the daughter of Peter A. and Mary Povator Livengood.

Barbara died in 1846 and James married to Rebecca Brown in 1847.

May 27, 1854 Anna's stepmother Rebecca murdered her father in what is known as the most scandalous murder in the history of McDonough County, IL.
