2 Webster County Men Fatally Hurt

Two more traffic deaths in Springfield's Troop D Highway Patrol area at 9 o'clock this morning rocketed October's death toll in the Ozarks to 13, better than a one-a-day average.

Killed this morning were John Wesley Breedlove, 58, Fordland, a farm laborer, and Christopher W. Brooks, 72, a retired farmer.

The latest death occurred on Webster County KK, five miles east of Marshfield, troopers said, Brooks, believed to be the driver of a 1948 Chevrolet pickup truck in which Breedlove was riding, was taken to Springfield Baptist Hospital at 10:45 a.m. but died at 11:55 a.m. Breedlove died instantly when he was thrown from the vehicle.

Troopers said the men were going north on KK and had just turned east onto a gravel road with a steep upgrade when the truck skidded, overturned, and came to rest pinned between a culvert and a tree. Brooks was pinned in the truck.

Greene County Coroner Ralph Thieme, whose jurisdiction automatically went into effect when Brooks died in a Springfield hospital , said he did not think there would be an inquest.

The bodies were taken to the Barber-Edwards Funeral Home at Marshfield.
