Longtime Alaska and Palmer resident Clystia E. LaRose, 87, died March 27, 1995, at Palmer Pioneers' Home, where she had lived since 1992. Services were held at United Protestant Presbyterian Church in Palmer with the Rev. Tim Carrick officiating. Burial was at Valley Memorial Park.
Mrs. LaRose was born April 18, 1907, in Phillips, Wis., one of 15 children born to Sanford Hill and Ona Beason. She arrived in the Matanuska Valley with the first group of colonists in 1935 with her husband, Henry, and four small children. They developed a vegetable and dairy farm in the Palmer Farm Loop area. They sold the farm in 1954 and built a home in Palmer. Deciding that they did not care for city life, they homesteaded on 160 acres on Lazy Mountain. They sold this property in 1971 and returned to Palmer. Mrs. LaRose loved her farm and homestead lifestyle, her gardens and greenhouse. She was a member of Ladies of the Moose, Women of the Pioneers of Alaska and Riverbend Homemakers Club. She attended United Protestant Presbyterian Church in Palmer. Her husband, Henry, died in 1985.
Henry and Cystia were married 29 March 1924 in Wisconsin.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Rosemary and Don and Florence, all of Palmer, and Floyd and Marjorie of Anchorage; daughter, Virginia Maleski of Wrangell; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters and four brothers in Montana and Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be sent to the American Lung Association of Alaska, 555 W. Northern Lights Blvd., No. 103, Anchorage 99503; or United Protestant Presbyterian Church, 707 S. Denali, Palmer 99645. Arrangements were handled by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
