OBITUARY.
CHAUNCY L. GRANT

We have to chronicle to-day the death of another of the oldest and most widely known citizens of Ithaca, in the person of Chauncey L. Grant, which sad event occurred on Sunday at four o’clock.

The deceased who had attained the advanced age of seventy-eight, had passed the greater portion of his long life in this place, and was for years one of the most important business men of Ithaca. During the years when stages were the chief means of freight as well as passengers transportation, Mr. Grant owned and controlled several of the lines centering here and thus accumulated a competency. He had not for some years been actively engaged in business, but has maintained a great devotion to the fortunes of the democratic party of which organization he was an influential member in its local councils and struggles. Mr. Grant had been active in mind and body until a very few days before his death, which was occasioned by a disease of the bowels. He had been twice married and leaves besides his widow, a number of children, among whom is the well-known druggist, C.L. Grant, Jr.

The time of the funeral will be announced hereafter.
