My father was born and raised in Texas. He was an outstanding athlete in school.

Served in WW II; flew in B-29s in Pacific Theater. Served in same unit that dropped the atomic bombs on Japan. His involvement with the A Bombs was uncertain as he never talked about his time there. However, his commander put him in for the Bronze Star for his work on Tinian Island around the time the bombs were dropped. He was a First Sergeant in the 444th Bombardment Group of the 20th Army Air Force.

After his military service, he and his wife resided in Salida, CO where he worked for US Postal Service for 30 years. After Ernest retired, they moved to Longmont, CO to be near his children. Later they moved to Temple, TX where Ernest could be near his aging brother and sister. He desired to be buried in Cameron, TX where his family lived for a while and where other relatives are buried.
