Obit: Maud Esther Whitmer was born December 20, 1886, in Grand Meadow Twp., Cherokee Co., Iowa, the daughter of George H. and Lottie (Whyte) Whitmer. She married Warren L. Baker December 18, 1907, in Grand Meadow. They homesteaded in Alberta, Canada, before returning to the Grand Meadow area in 1914 where they farmed for many years. Mr. Baker died in 1964. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Meadow Star United Methodist Church, the Quilters, and the UMW. She had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Care Center in Holstein since 1984. Maud died Sunday in Holstein, Iowa. Services were held at Meadow Star United Methodist Church, rural Washta, with burial in Grand Meadow Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Fern Goodmanson of Harlan, Iowa, and Rena Drefke of Marcus; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by one sister, three brothers, one son and two great grandchildren.
