She was born in Midway, Utah to John and Elizabeth Burgener Berg on January 3, 1913.
She married Arnold Brown in the Salt Lake Temple on June 28, 1933. She attended school in American Fork, graduating from high school in 1931.
She possessed natural gifts for drama, dance and music which were cultivated in church, school, and community venues. She and her dance partners won church contests in California, a waltz competition at Saltair, and further recognition at June Conference in Salt Lake City. Since her husband also loved to participate in M-Men and Gleaner plays, dances, and church road shows.
Their marriage was a match made in Heaven. They settled first in Salt Lake City, where children commenced enhancing the quality of their family life. Shortly after the Second World War began, an assignment to a position in the Union Pacific Railroad took them to Las Vegas, Nevada. There they continued their church activity, largely working with the youth in the ward and stake. Marie also found fulfillment by singing in a fine women's quartet. After twelve wonderful years in Las Vegas, they were transferred back to Salt Lake City in 1954.
When retirement came in 1974, Arnold and Marie enjoyed many happy years at their summer home near Vivian Park up Provo Canyon. This was a lovely refuge from the cares of the world, and a favorite place for children and grandchildren to come to weave pleasant memories to be savored throughout their lives. The central memory woven in the souls of their family revolved around their selfless example and service rendered to us all. Finally, in 1991, they purchased a home in Orem. Arnold preceded Marie in death in 1996.
Marie is survived by three children: Carol (Gary) Bunker of Highland; Tom (Jan) Brown of Corinth, Texas; and Sherrie (Ron) Ulicny of Orem; sixteen grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in the Suncrest Ninth Ward Chapel, 140 North 400 West, Orem, Utah, where friends may visit before the services from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
