Copper Worker Slips Under Ore Train, Dies
BINGHAM- A 31-year-old brakeman for the Kennecott Copper Corporation was killed early Sunday when he slipped from a slow-moving ore train on the dump level at Carr Fork.

John Christian Berg, Bingham, a World War II veteran, died shortly after the accident, which occurred at 8:30 p.m. Cause of death was loss of blood from a severed artery in his right leg.

Mr. Berg. a brakeman on the ore train, had given the signal to back up when, according to witnesses, he lost his footing and fell between two cars. Pinned by the arch bar, he suffered a severed artery.

The injured man was rushed to a first aid station, but died shortly after the accident.

He was born March 3, 1917, in American Fork, a son of John E and Elizabeth Burgner Berg. He had lived in American Fork most of his life and attended school there.

He was married to Irene Deakin In Copperton July 25, 1938. They lived in Midvale for three years before moving to Bingham. During the war, he served with a tank battalion in Italy. After his discharge two years ago, he returned to to work for the Kennecott Copper Corporation as a trackman, being promoted to brakeman in 1947.
