Lessie and her sister Susie (or Sue) were the daughters of George Ernest Raley and his first wife, Alice L Ralston, who died in 1905 in Bell County, Texas. After Alice's death, the family moved to Wise County. Their father remarried in 1914 to Miss Ozella Collins and two more daughters (Leona and Loy) were born to them. Both Lessie and Susie became schoolteachers in Wise County.
