Pvt. Madison Monroe Bass, Co. C, 12th Battalion, Arkansas Sharpshooters, Confederate States Army. Enlisted March 1, 1862, Co. B, 20th Regiment, Arkansas Infantry. Assigned to Co. C, 12th Battalion, Arkansas Sharpshooters on June 21, 1862.

Fought at Battles of Corinth (Davis Bridge), Grand Gulf, and Port Gibson. Captured at Battle of Port Gibson, Vicksburg Campaign on May 1, 1863. Held at federal prison Alton, IL, May 18, 1863. Transferred to USA General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA on June 17, 1863 suffering from Measles. Prisoner of War, died in captivity, June 27, 1863 of smallpox. Buried at Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA.

Parents were Lewis and Cynthia Bass. Married Mary Jane Saulsbury at Montgomery, Alabama in 1856.
