She was born on August 22, 1924, in Bristol, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Nicholas Faine Owen and Gertha Mae Shufflebarger.
Mrs. Allen was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Orange.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Knox Allen Sr. of Orange; two daughters, Cheryl Allen Atkinson and her husband Vincent of Seneca, South Carolina, Candace Allen Moore and her husband, Joseph, of Summerton, South Carolina; one son, Robert Knox "Jay" Allen Jr. and his wife, Jody, of Orange; six grandchildren, Vincent Betts Atkinson Jr. and his wife, Louise, of Spartansburg, South Carolina, Victoria Beth Atkinson Leslie and her husband, Lance, of Concord, North Carolina, Ryan Everett Allen of Arlington, Virginia, Cali Elizabeth Allen of Orange, Michaela Elise Allen of Orange, and Jamie Moore Malbone of Richmond; four great-grandchildren, one brother and two sisters.
She was also preceded in death by eight other siblings.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Orange with Pastor Tom Barnard officiating.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2009, at the Glenwood Shelby Hill Cemetery in Bristol, Tennessee.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at the funeral home.
