Edith grew up on the farm in Jasper County, the 'spoiled baby'- her words- of the family. Her parents and siblings doted on her. Her sister was Ethel Gay Roberts and big brother was George Anthony Roberts, Jr.

Edith went to the University of Iowa at Iowa City and received a B. S. degree in biology in the early 1920s- not many women did that! She married Edward A. McMurray 21 Nov 1922 in Iowa City, Johnson, IA. They lived in St. Louis, MO while her husband was in medical school, and she returned to Newton to have their son and for the rest of her life. They were divorced c1930 and she married Alfred Luck 27 Feb 1937 in Cass Co., IA.

Edith loved the farm she grew up on, and always had a large garden at her house, a bigger one at the edge of town, and one very large garden out on the farm. Her brother Georgie farmed the land for her, and then she had a tenant farmer when Georgie could no longer farm.

Edie taught Sunday School and was a member of the St. Stephens Alter Guild for many many years. Her lemon meringue pies were always a hit at bake sales, and she was an excellent cook, especially with all the wonderful jams and vegetables she put up each year. (Her chili sauce was incredible.) She was a hard worker, even if she was a bit spoiled as a child and teen, and was loved by many generations of the community.
