Petronila emigrated to the United States from Austria in the late 1890s with her husband Frank and her three sons; Thomas, Alois and Joseph. The Boudny family settled in the Central Texas area and farmed there until Petronila and Frank divorced. Petronila then moved to the Imperial Valley area of California with her sons Joseph and Thomas.
