MICHAEL SAUER DEAD
Well known Adams Township Farmer
Passes Away After An
Illness of Four Weeks
The death of Michael Sauer, well known retired farmer of Adams Township, occurred at the family home at 2 o'clock Monday morning May 7, 1917, after an illness of four weeks of intense suffering from bladder trouble. From the beginning of his suffering his decline was rapid, breaking down his apparent rugged constitution until death relieved his sufferings. Michael Sauer was the son of Martin and Margaret Sauer and was born in Germany, August 1839. He was brought by his parents to America the following spring, and a short time after arriving in this country his parents located on the same farm in Adams Township where he grew to manhood; where his marriage took place and where he lived a happy and useful life. Ten years ago his companion was called from him and the sunset of his life commenced, for from this time on he looked forward to a close of his own life, when he hoped to be reunited with the companion he had loved and trusted with unwavering devotion. Mr Sauer was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and his daily walk revealed the sincerity of his profession. He was a good neighbor and cheerfully contributed in various ways to the welfare of those around him, but the most sacred place of all to him was his home and with loving devotion labored and cared for his wife and children. Their companionship was dear to him and he spared no effort to make them happy and contented. Michael Sauer was married to Elizabeth Koppert, February 9, 1862 and to this union six daughters were born. They are all living and are, Mrs Mary Krebs who lives on the homestead farm; Mrs Anna E Jordan of Adamsville; Miss Katie C Sauer of the home; Mrs Clara Knicely of Conesville; Mrs Ella Knicely of Coshocton and Mrs Flora Lapp of near Wills Creek. For the past ten years, Mr Sauer and his unmarried daughter, Miss Katie have lived together and they have felt their dependence upon each other and the ties of father and daughter strengthened as the years passed. With tender affection the daughter cared for her father through his illness and with almost heartbreaking sorrow felt the severance of those ties in the hour of death. Besides the children named the deceased is survived by two sisters, Mrs Margaret Gerber of Adamsville and Mrs Sarah Fink of Coshocton and one brother, George Sauer of Cincinnati. Ten grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive him. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev Ira R Ladd, Wednesday forenoon at the Zion Lutheran Church, leaving the house at 10:30 o'clock. H E Shirer will have charge of the burial and the remains will be laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.
