Magnina "Maggie" Gunnlaugsson Johnson (1885 - 1977)

Magnina Johnson, 92, Washington Island, died at Door County Memorial hospital Monday morning, Nov. 14, She was born on Washington Island Oct. 26, 1885 to Peter and Magnina Gunnlaugsson and was married to Haldon Johnson on the Island on June 30, 1909. He preceded her in death Aug. 30. 1954. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church and the American Lutheran Church Women. She is survived by three sons Rupert Johnson and Percival Johnson, both of Washington Island, and Merrill Johnson, Madison; one sister Mrs. Dagmar Anderson, Shawano, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one son Edwin and two grandchildren. Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran church on the Island at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Island cemetery. The Rev. Samuel Kochel will officiate. Friends may call at the church after 4 p.m. this Tuesday until time of services Wednesday. The Casperson funeral home in Sister Bay was in charge of arrangements.

The marriage of Haldon N. Johnson and Magnina Gunlaugsson was solemnized at the home of the bride's parents on June 30th, Justice G. Lindstrom tying the nuptial knot. About 75 invited guests were present, and yet the capacious mansion of Mr. Gunnlaugsson could have comfortably accommodated a number more without being at all crowded. The affair was up-to-date in every particular, and all had a most enjoyable time. The high contracting parties were both born and reared on the Island, and all join in the wish that their lives may be a long, happy and most prosperous ones.
