KENNAN, Purlina F. SPRINGER Mitchell - Mrs. Geo. F. Kennan died last Thursday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jennie Farnum, No. 409 North Sixth street. She was 82 years old and had been helplessly bedfast for the past eight months. Funeral services were held at the First Christian church Friday morning at ten o'clock and were conducted by Rev. R.M. Thompson. Burial was in the Rogers cemetery. Owing to bad train connections and illness, two of her sons were unable to be here. Purlina F. Springer was born in February 15, 1840 in Tennessee. She came to Pea Ridge, Arkansas at the age of nine years with her mother, who was a widow, and they came in the same party with B.F. and J. Wade Sikes. She was married in 1858 to William Mitchell and one son was born to them, C.R. Mitchell of Leach, Okla. Mr. Mitchell was killed in 1863 while serving in the Confederate army. She was married on September 9, 1866 to George F. Kennan, who died some twenty-five years ago. To them four children were born: Mrs. Jennie Farnum and Burnett Kennan of Rogers; A.A. Kennan of Little Rock, and Mrs. Zilnanpha Musteen, who is deceased. For forty years Mrs. Kennan had been a devoted Christian and was a charter member of the First Christian church of Rogers and a loyal supporter. For eight months she had been confined to her bed with rheumatism and suffered intense pain - which she born without a murmur. She was a devoted mother and had a large circle of friends who she greatly enjoyed when she was able to see and be with them.[Rogers, Democrat - Rogers, Benton County, Arkansas - November 24, 1821]
