Son of Charles & Nancy (McPherrin) Mitchell.

Co. F, 35th Arkansas Infantry, private; enlisted 15 Aug 1862 in Benton Co., AR; regiment engaged at Prairie Grove 7-8 Dec 1862, and in attack on Helena, AR 4 Jul 1863. At the latter, Pvt. Mitchell was captured, sent to Military Prison at Alton IL on 9 Jul 1863, and thence to Camp Douglas, Chicago IL on 23 Jul 1864. Died 5 Dec 1864. Buried in Grave 223, Block 2, Chicago City Cemetery.

Note: The 35th Arkansas Infantry was also known as the 22nd Arkansas Infantry (not to be confused with an earlier 22nd Arkansas Infantry, which was redesignated as the 20th Arkansas Infantry).
