Sarah Ione White Eagle Molash was born to Richard and Margaret Jordan, White Eagle on April 14, 1918. She was born in a tent in rural Kenel, S.D., and spent her early years in rural Kenel with her grandmother, Annie Twiggs Jordan. She attended the Indian School at Bismarck, which is now known as Fraine Barracks. She played on that school's basketball team, which she liked to talk about when she was younger and could remember all the other girls' names. After completing school in Bismarck, she attended The Indian School at Flandreau, S.D., which at that time was a vocational school. She learned to be a hairdresser and after completing her training she returned to her parents' home in Cannon Ball.

She met and later married James H. Molash at Fort Yates. Together, they had two daughters, Janice and Rebecca, five sons, James, Robert, Joseph, Raymond and Kenneth. She leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren scattered from Alaska to Georgia. She worked a couple of short periods as a cook for the Government and St. Bernards Mission Schools. She spent most of her life just being a housewife and mother. During this time, she was a 70-year member of St. Peters Catholic Parish at Fort Yates. She was a member along with her husband of the Fort Yates Saddle Club. She competed in events for the ladies and often rode the governments little Black Morgan horse "shorty." She will be remembered by many for her baking of pies. At this time of the year, she would be making "Bunny" cakes. One of the grandchildren remembers helping make 18 bunny cakes for Easter that she gave to children.

She liked to dance, in her youth she and her sister, Laura would exhibition the Charleston Dance. After the passing of her husband in 1980, she did volunteer work at the Indian Health Service Hospital in Fort Yates. She takes with her the old Indian ways and language she learned from her grandmother and parents. She enjoyed using the Sioux language when visiting older individuals, especially uncle Pete Looking Horse.

She is survived by her sister, Margie Eagle, Cannon Ball; her daughter, Janice Barrett, Palmer, Alaska; her sons, Robert, Helena Mont., Kenneth. Sifer Okla., and James and Raymond, both of Fort Yates.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Margaret; her sisters, Margaret, Marie, Melda, Louise and Laura; her brothers, Joseph and Leonard; her husband, James; her daughter, Rebecca; and her son, Joseph. (Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge)
