Caroline was the daughter of Mary (Venham) and William F. Wallace of Mead Township, Belmont County, Ohio. She married William Gallaher, 15 Sept 1852, in Belmont County; her younger sister (Mary Jane) married his younger brother (Thomas Coleman), and they lived as neighbors most of their lives. Caroline and William had six known children, before her death in Mead Township, due to typhoid fever. Her daughter Clara died in the same outbreak.
