While researching WWII casualties on http://news.google.com/newspapers, I came across this article on Jasper A. Messmore quite by accident. I am currently working on a listing of all Kansans Killed In Action or Missing In Action from World War II. The website www.wwiimemorial.com/registry shows him as Status: Died Non-Battle from Schenectady County, New York. It also showed his picture. The article makes no mention of New York, however. Because of the circumstances of his loss, I don't know if you necessarily want to add this to his Find-A-Grave memorial, but I thought that I would forward it to you if you wanted to add bits and pieces. This is a very sad story.

OFFICER FOUND DEAD NEAR CAR
ORLANDO--First Lt. Jasper A. Messmore, 24, of Kansas City, Mo., who had been reported missing from the Army air forces tactical center since Friday night, was found dead beside an automobile near neighboring Winter Park yesterday.

Coroner E.G. Duckworth said death was due to carbon monoxide poisoning. He said the body was lying under the exhaust pipe with a towel draped over the face and the end of the pipe.
