Artist, Teacher. He was also known as Oau Nah Jusah or 'They Have Returned.' He served on the USS FRANKLIN, where he suffered injuries, earning the Purple Heart.

"GRITTS, FRANKLIN, of Overland, on Fri., Nov. 8, 1996, dear father of Dara Stillman, Robert (Julie) and Galen (Kathryn) Gritts, beloved grandfather of Tyler and Kattie Gritts, Jonathan and Bryanne Stotler and Remington Gritts, dear friend of Evelyn Small, our dear uncle, cousin, and friend.

Mr. Gritts, a full blooded Cherokee was a renowned artist who also taught art at Haskell Indian University in Lawrence, Kansas. He was a veteran of WWII, where he received the Purple Heart honor. Mr. Gritts was the former art director of the Sporting News, Sporting Goods Dealer and the St. Louisan.

Funeral from SHEPARD FUNERAL CHAPEL, 9255 Natural Bridge at I-170 on Mon., Nov. 11, 1996 at 11 a.m. Private Interment. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Sun.Sunday., Nov. 10. 1996. Memorials to American Heart Assoc."
