Funeral for William John "Chubby" Charles Jr, 72, of Decatur will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Hoover and the Rev. J.B. Snyder officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Charles died Wednesday, September 1, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born October 24, 1926, in Morgan County. He was a lifelong member of Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church where he was a deacon and at times served as minister of music.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Valley Products Co Inc after 33 years, where he served as sales manager and chief executive officer.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Charles; one son, Billy Charles of Birmingham; two daughters, Terri Watwood and Anita Crow, both of Decatur; three sisters, Cora Lou Street and Dale Brothers, both of Decatur and Mary Frances Brown of Somerville; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Gerald Arney, Bob Barnett, Michael Street, Andy Street, Stanley Maner and Charles Watwood. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church.
