His father remarried Laura McClinton of Houston Co., Texas. He married Christine Walling of Elkhart, Texas in 1936. They had the following children; Peggie Laverne , Jo Evelyn , Emmitt, Jr., (adopted name Frank Moore), John William (adopted name Pennington), Earnestine (Earnie), Nancy Sue (took the name Walling), Ronnie Carroll (adopted name Cogdill).
Christine died Jan. 14, 1948 age 27. Children were split up. He remarried Charlie Mae Clevenger. They had five children. Shirley Ann, Kathy, Betty Gail, Mitchell and William (Billy).
Charlie Mae had a daughter Ellen whom he adopted.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and step-mother, first wife, a daughter Shirley Ann Franklin b.Sept. 12, 1953 Brazoria Co. d. Jan 8, 1957, Harris Co. Shirley is buried at Zavalla Cemetery, Angelina County, Texas.
He worked for Texas Dept. of Corrections for twenty-seven years-Retrieve Unit-before retiring. He was Food Service Captain. He spent his remaining years playing dominoes with his friends.
