Born October 10, 1921 in Greene County, VA, he was the son of the late James Thomas Marshall and Lillie Herring Marshall. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Armentrout and Ethel Haney; and four brothers, William, Joseph, Hughes, and Elmer Marshall.
Mr. Marshall was retired with 30 years of service from the University of Virginia as an Elevator Mechanic then later Supervisor. He was an avid hunter and camper, previously attended Mt. View Baptist Church, and had served in WW II in the U. S. Army during the Pacific Campaign in the Philippines.
Surviving him are his wife of fifty-nine years, Pearl Marshall of Charlottesville; four daughters, Helen Marshall of Charlottesville, Ethel Hutchinson and her husband, Bill, of Gordonsville, Shirley Irving and her husband, Steve, of Gordonsville, and Rachel Collier and her husband, Tommie, of Crozet; three sons, Jimmy Marshall and his wife, Linda, of Scottsville, Kenny Marshall of Keswick, and Melvin Marshall and his wife, Teresa, of Scottsville; sixteen grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 25, 2008 in the Hill and Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Willis officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Memorial Gardens.
