She was preceded in death by her husband James Vernie Marshall, her stepfather, Lawrence Houchens, two sons-in-law and one grandson.
Mrs. Marshall was retired from the UVA Hospital. Along with being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and homemaker she enjoyed camping, cooking, and most of all spending time with family.
Surviving her are her four daughters, Helen Marshall of Charlottesville, Ethel Hutchinson and husband, Bill, of Gordonsville, Shirley Irving of Gordonsville, Rachel Collier of Crozet; one son, Melvin Marshall and wife, Teresa, of Scottsville, and two stepsons, Jimmy Marshall and wife, Linda, of Scottsville, and Kenny Marshall of Barboursville; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Richard Hall and the entire staff of the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center as well as the staff of 8 West and 3 East of the UVA Medical Center for their compassion, care, and love during this trying time.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Hill and Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Willis officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, June 12, 2015 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center, 1240 Lee Street, Charlottesville, VA, 22903.
