Sarah attended the Weimer School near Ruskin and went on to obtain her LPN degree in 1972 from Immanuel Lutheran Hospital in Omaha, where she worked until her retirement. She moved to Hastings, where she continued her nursing as an on call nurse at the Hastings Good Samaritan Village. Sarah moved to Superior after breaking her leg and remained here until her death.
She was a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin and Good Shepherd Lutheran in Hastings and was a current member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hardy.
Sarah loved to sew and will always be remembered as a person who was always helping others.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Ira and Magnus Petersen; and a brother-in-law, Harley Jensen.
Survivors include one sister, Carla Jensen of Superior, Nebraska; one nephew, Merwin Jensen and his wife Sharon of Goodland, Kansas; and one niece, Janice Ostergaard and her husband Denton of Omaha, Nebraska.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 2, 20000, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hardy, Nebraska, with Pastor Howard Schroeder officiating. Music was provided by soloist Hartley Petersen singing "Just As I Am" and congregational hymns of "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "Thine is the Glory", with Ernestine Hoyer as organist and accompanist.
Interment was in Spring Creek Cemetery, Ruskin. Pallbearers were Craig Ostergaard, Scott Jensen, Elliot Jensen, Trevor Jensen, John Maslo, Matt Schoenbeck and Toby Ingram. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements.
