Jens Christian Petersen, son of Peter Jeremiasen Petersen and Elsie Katherine Polsdatter, was born at Terndrup, Denmark on March 19, 1871 and departed this life at his home in Hardy August 9, 1948 at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 21 days. He was one of sixteen children in this family. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his home church in Terndrup.

Mr. Petersen came to American in 1888 residing in Waterloo, Iowa until the spring of 1895 when he moved with his family near Ruskin, Nebr.

He was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Hansen Dec. 10, 1892 and to this union, eleven children were born. Two children died in infancy, and one son, Theodore, died in June 1924 at the age of 18.

The surviving children are Miss Margaret of Avalon, Calif.; Otto W and Jesse of Lincoln, Marvin of Stanton, Iowa, Mrs. Emma Salyard, Mrs. Katherine Henry, Mrs. Esther Wyatt and E. M. Petersen of Hardy. In addition, there are seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A brother, P. C. Petersen of Blair, Nebraska and a sister, Mrs. Mary Nelson of Waterloo, Iowa also survive him, as well as a host of other relatives and friends who join the widow in mourning his passing.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon in Scott's Mortuary at Hardy conducted by the Rev. Harry Gleim. Burial was in the Ruskin Cemetery.
