A telegram received by David Lawson Esqr., at an early hour Tuesday morning announced the death of his father, Judge J. B. Lawson. The judge had for the past few years being [sic] living with his children at their different places of residence. At the time of his death, he was the welcome guest of his daughter, Mrs. S. Q. Blair, of Glade Run, Butler County, Pa. He was among the first setlers [sic] of Clarion County, coming from Kittanning with his father in 1812 and locating in or near Lawsonham. Until after the death of his dearly beloved wife in 1888, he resided on his farm within two miles of where he was raised. Leaving there he lived in Brookville for a short time. When quite a young man, he united with Licking Presbyterian church and for more than half a century has been a ruling Elder in Bethesda and in Oak Grove churches. He was identified with the business interests of the County in his younger days being connected with its iron interests. He was active in politics being a member of the whig party until it ceased to be a factor. Then he joined the Democratic party, in which faith he continued. He was County Commissioner of this County; filled two terms in the legislature of this State, and was Associate Judge of this district being the last Associate Judge that was appointed. He was a man known for his high sence [sic] of honor, his stearling [sic] character bound his friends to him and challenged his enemies respect. A christian gentleman, beloved by his friends and respected by all. His life had been a long one as he had entered his eighty-ninth year and the gray hairs of age were as a crown of glory covering his aged head. He leaves three sons: Rev. Orr Lawson, D.D., of New London, Iowa, Dr. T. C. Lawson, of Brookville, and David Lawson, Esqr. of Clarion. Four daughters: Mrs. S. Q. Blair, of Glade Run, Butler County, Pa., Mrs. A. C. Craig, of Brookville, Mrs. W. W. Dull, of Springfield, Mo., and Mrs. C. C. Campbell, Cozad, Neb. The funeral will take place tomorrow at the Presbyterian church in Porter township about three and a half miles from Lawsonham. We mourn a good man departed and the Kingdom of heaven has another star.
