MRS. SALLIE USRY DIES AT 81 YEARS OF AGE

Sarah Frances Mitchell, daughter of William and Ann Mitchell, was born at Walnut Grove, Mo., Dec. 23, 1859, and entered into rest at her home in Pendleton February 28, 1941, at the advanced age of 81 years, two months and three days. She was happily married to Stephen USR of near High Hill Dec. 24, 1876. To this union nine children were born, two of whom preceded the parents in death. On Sept. 20, 1936, she suffered the loss of her loving companion, who was taken by death. They had been permitted to ravel life's pathway together many, many years. To an unusual degree the Lord blessed them both with a long life.

Mrs. USR early in life united with the Methodist Church and always lived a beautiful Christian life. Although ill health prevented her regular attendance to church services, her faith in God never wavered. She remained steadfast in His righteousness to the end, always enjoying a visit from her pastor to learn more of God's wonderful love. Grandmother, as she was lovingly called, had not been in good health for several years although she had been up about the home most of the winter until Thursday she suffered a heart ailment from which she never rallied and peacefully fell asleep Friday at 5:30 p.m. Her children were most patient and kind during all her declining years they cared for her tenderly and did everything to make her comfortable and happy. Her granddaughter, Marjorie Blackburn, was her constant companion and ever faithful, loving and ready to be of service to Grandmother. Mrs. USR lived a long and useful life in this community. Her death marks the passing of another of the very old residents of Pendleton whose interests and influence in the town and on its people will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held at the church here Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the presence of a large gathering of loved ones, friends and neighbors. Rev. D. E. Finley, pastor, had charge of the services assisted by Rev. T. P. Middleton who read the Scripture and offered prayer. A ladies choir of members of the Ladies Aid of which Mrs. USR was a loyal member, rendered two selections, "In the Garden" and "It Is Well With My Soul." Mrs. J. H. Dyer sang very softly "Shadows," with Miss Dorothy Moore at the piano.

She is survived by five daughters and two sons, Mrs. Mae Wegener of Warrenton, Mrs. Mattie Pruitt and Mrs. Bessie Hader of Kansas City, Mrs. Beulah Meyer of Belleville, Ill., Mrs. Anna Meyer and Wm. T. USR of Pendleton and Grover C. of St. Charles, five sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Meyer and Minnie Adams of Warrenton; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends who will cherish her memory.

The floral offering was abundant and beautiful. The following grandsons served as pallbearers: Arnold Wegener, Delmar Backs, Kenneth Meyer, Newel Blackburn and Harold Lee and Rodney Hader; granddaughters as flower girls; Ruth Ann Meyer, Ruth Backs, Mrs. Harold Hader, Delores Dothage, Dorothy and Evelyn Meyer, and grandson, Richard Hader. Interment took place in the Warrenton cemetery. Sincere sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved family.
