The daughter of Michael Fortin and Therese DeGerlais, "Theresa" was baptized on 17 Sep 1817 at St. Ferdinand's Catholic Church in Florissant, Missouri Territory. This area later became a part of north St. Louis County.

Theresa married Jean Baptiste "Bates" DeRosia on 08 Feb 1841 at St. Ferdinand's. [Note: The surname is spelled DeRosier on some records.] He was a farmer, and they were the parents of at least 7 children.

The family moved to Point Precinct, Calhoun County, Illinois around 1858. Their youngest child, Luvenia, was born there around 1859, and Bates worked as a laborer.

Theresa's sister, Adrienne Dorothée Fortin Navarre, married into the Navarre family and lived in Calhoun County.

Theresa and Bates' daughter, Emily DeRosia, married a widower named Antione Navarre. County records have their marriage listed as occurring on 14 Nov 1861 in Calhoun County. [Emily may have died within the next several years. He married Antionette Mecker or Meeker in 1870.]

Bates fought in the Civil War with Company C of the 97th Illinois. This unit was made up of many men from Calhoun County, Illinois. He died on 01 Mar 1864 and was buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. Theresa filed a widow's pension on 20 Jun 1864.

Known children from first marriage: 3 daughters, 3 sons, 2 infants.

Calhoun marriage records say that "Mary Theresa DeRosa" married "Antione Parese" on 18 Jun 1864. It is unknown at this time if this was a misspelling of the surname Navarre, or if she married a Navarre after 1864 and before 1870.

Theresa lived until 28 Feb 1870. She was buried on 01 Mar 1870.

Theresa's grave is no longer marked.

Known children:
Emelia "Emily" DeRosia Navarre
Infant DeRosia
Alexander "Alex" DeRosia
Baptiste Adolphe "John" DeRosia
Michel "Mike" DeRosia
Mary "Adeline" DeRosia DeSherlia
Luvenia DeRosia
Infant DeRosia

----------

Note: Calhoun County Historical Society records have Theresa's burial incorrectly indexed as Theresia Navay (1820 to 28 Mar 1870). Some entries in the old St. Mary's Catholic Church record books are difficult to read and were written in Latin. The misspelling and incorrect dates listed by the CCHS for Theresa were most likely due to a misinterpretation of the original handwritten records.
