Jesse L. Patch, 82, of Decatur, passed away at his residence
on Saturday, November 29, 2008. He was born on February
6, 1926, in Marion, Indiana, to Clarence and Martha (Alderton)
Patch. On January 5, 1947 he married Esther L. Luginbill.
He is survived by his wife, Esther L. Patch of Decatur; three
sons, Michael (Barbara) Patch of Otterbein, Indiana; Dr. Roy
(Sharon) Patch of Greer, South Carolina; and Tom (Diane)
Patch of Decatur; one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Rebecca)
Durnbaugh of Decatur; one brother, Howard (Delores) Patch
of Jay City, Indiana; one sister, Ruth Habegger of Berne; nine
grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers,
Francis and James Patch; and two grandchildren.
Jesse was a member of First Baptist Church in Decatur. He
was currently a trustee at the church and was also a former
deacon, Sunday School teacher, and youth leader. He retired
in 1990 after 22 years with Indiana Michigan Power. He
served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2,
2008, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur. Funeral
services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3,
2008, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home. Officiating will
be Rev. Whitney West. Burial will take place in Decatur
Cemetery, with military graveside rites by the color guard
from American Legion Post 43 in Decatur.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Family
Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeast Indiana, or the
American Cancer Society.
