Charles Bullis was born in Knox County, Ohio May 6, 1847, being the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. German Bullis. At nine years of age he came to Iowa with his parents. They came to Wright county in 1864. He has twice been married. The first time to Miss Catherine Goudy. There was born to them three children, all living: Mrs. Harry Poole of Eagle Grove, Mr. Frank Bullis of Eagle Grove and Mrs. Lottie Beggs of Bloomfield, Iowa. His wife died in November, 1874. He was married again March 30, 1880, to Margaret Hindal and to them there were born seven children, two of these are dead, a baby died in 1894 and Belle Nolte, a daughter, died last November. The remaining living of this family: Chester, Bessie, Maud, Ada and German.

Mr. Bullis' sickness which was the cause of his death, was of short duration. he was in bed just nine days, very sick from the first with the dreaded and treacherous disease, pneumonia. Mr. Bullis has lived in and a round Belmond since 1864 and hence is an old settler here. He will be missed from our community. The funeral will be held from the home Thursday forenoon at ten o'clock. Rev. Van Metre will have charge of the services and interment will be in Franklin Grove cemetery. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the afflicted. - Belmond Herald, February 3, 1909
