age 49Eli enlisted for Civil War army service in Company K, 16th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry as a private soldiers, October 1, 1863 for a 3-year term of service. He was transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps, March 4, 1864.

The 1870 U.S. Census shows Eli residing in Westfield Twp., Medina County Ohio, farming ($3500 $500), with wife, Mina or Mariah, and daughter, Cornelai, 5 mos. old.

He applied for an invaalid army pension, Feb. 7, 1865, issued at Certificate 74247 and his widow, shown as Mariah filed for a widow's benefit, Dec. 22, 1876 which was issued as Certificate 3244706. The 1876 year of application is incorrect as Eli died in 1879.
