Marian Riner Holiday Hamilton, 73, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born May 30, 1936, at Wikel, WV, she was the daughter of the late Christopher T. and Annie Canterbury Riner. She attended Greenville High School, was a homemaker on the farm in early life and then worked at Greenbrier State Forest and Greenbrier Manor, Potomac House and Shenandoah Manor nursing homes. Marian never met a stranger. She was a member of Zion's Light Baptist Church in Ronceverte and attended Bethel Church in Frankford, where her second husband, Charles, was pastor for over 17 years. She was preceded in death: by her first husband, Guy C. Holliday in 1986; her second husband, Charles Hamilton in 2008; brothers, Porter and Henry Riner; and sister, Mary Spangler. Survivors include: son, Rodney Holliday of Gap Mills; daughter, Florence Peterson and husband Mike of Frankford; granddaughters, Hope Sheppard and companion Darrell O'Brient of Lewisville, TX, Alicia Hughes and husband Danny of Kaufman, TX, Amanda Friend and husband Rusty of White Sulphur Springs, and Heather Crowder and husband Dominic of Lewisville, TX; great-grandchildren, Michael and Dylan Hughes, Mackenzie and Connor Friend, Damarea Sheppard, and Dominic Crowder Jr; sisters, Elizabeth Martin of Union and Vianna Baker of Clifton Forge, VA; brothers, Andrew Riner of Huntington and Joe Riner and wife Josephine of Stoney Point, NC; stepchildren, Charles Hamilton JR and wife Valerie, Goldie Lambert and husband Danny and Vickie Caruthers and companion Jim Richmond, all of Frankford; step-grandchildren, Wayne Caruthers, Crystal Homer and husband Neil, Nathan Hamilton and Melody Thomas and husband David; and step-great-grandchildren, Nathan Hamilton JR and Cooper Charles Homer. Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Zion's Light Baptist Church on Horseshoe Bend Road, Ronceverte, where Rev. Gary Baker and Pastor Joe Hendricks officiated. Burial was in Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg. Visitation was Monday evening at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
